Report of Committees :

REPORT ON PERIODICALS.

We, your Committee, beg leave to report : We believe the Bible to be
the great source of the light of the world and that it should be first of all
our reading. We deem the Alabatna Baptist, Tennessee Baptisr, Fold's
Christian Repository and Kind Words for the Sunday Schools all emi-
nently worthy of our support and patronage, and would recommend everj'
Baptist in the Association to subscribe for and read some of our religious
journals.

Respectfully submitted,

T. K. MuLLiN, Ch'n.

REPORT ON TEMPERANCE.

We find that the cause of temperance is advancing within our bounds.
We can no more tolerate the moderate use of intoxicants than the moder-
ate indulgence of any other growing sin. One drink of whiskey, when
taken as a beverage, is intemperance. We call upon our churches to show

their faithfulness by exercising a godly discipline to put down the making,
selling and use of ardent spirits as a beverage. We can but express our
profound gratitude to God for the advance that has been made in the tem-
perance cause within our State and country during the year.
Respectfully submitted,

J. W. Head, Ch'n.

REPORT ON SABBATH SCHOOLS.

We have but little encouraging information from which to make our
report. Of our seventeen churches only seven report Sunday Schools, and
these seven have been greatly blessed, and had many accessions to their
membership during the year. We earnestly urge the churches to wake up
to their duty and at once take steps to organize Sunday Schools, the medium
through which the great truths of the Bible may be impressed upon the
minds of the yoimg. We are taught to bring up a child in the way it
should go, etc. We hope the pastors of the churches will strive earnestly
to arouse their membership to a sense of duty in this grand work so that
next year every church can report a flourishing Sunday School.
Respectfully submitted,

G. M. Stanley, Ch'n.

Brothers W. R. and 0. W. Hardin were granted leave of
absence.

Adjourned for dinner.

1:30 p. M.
Prayer by Elder W. C. Avant.

Reports of Committees resumed :

REPORT ON MISSIONS.

The cause of misssions is the cause of our blessed Christ, and this truth
should tend to enthuse us with more zeal and energy in the cause of our Mas-
ter. Let us all be fully alive to this important work and strive to do more
than ever before, knowing that " God Loves a Cheerful Giver." We fear
the churches are indiflerent and careless as to the demands upon them.
Brethren, be faithful and energetic in the cause of our great Redeemer.
Respectfully submitted,

E. M. Brooks, Ch'n.

REPORT ON EDUCATION.

We are glad to be able to report that the interest in education is growing
in our midst, and that the opportunities for refined culture is good. We all
should aid by our efforts and support the advanced educational interest
being inaugurated throughout the land. With feelings of pride we direct
attention to our denominational colleges — the Howard for young men, and
the Judson and Central for young ladies. Let us encourage them.
Respectfully submitted,

T. W. Law, Ch'n.

REPORT ON BIBLE CAUSE.

We report some destitution,, but are unable to say definitely how much,
or to what extent it exists. We recommend that every one of this Associ-
ation be requested to search for those having no Bible, and that money be
raised to supply the need. The Word of Life should be placed in the
hands of every one, and Baptists are the people to do it ; for like Paul, we
are not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for therein is the righteousness of
God revealed from faith to faith.

Respectfully submitted,

D. C. Allen, Ch'n.

REPORT ON DECEASED MINISTERS.

We are happy to be able to report tbat God, in mercy, has spared the
lives of all our ministers another year ; but we feel deeply impressed to
notice the death of that old " veteran of the cross," Elder Wm. Pritchet,
late of the Centennial Association. Brother Pritchet had spent the vigor
of his manhood with us, and everywhere the fruit of his labors abound.
He was faithful, indeed, in the cause of Christ, and "our loss is his eternal
gain." May God reise up more men to spend and be spent in declarmg
the full council of God.

Respectfully submitted,

D. C. Allen, Ch'n.

REPORT OF FINANCE COMMI'lTEE.
